6 Tips for Surving the NYSC Orientation Camp

Hey guys!

If you reading this I probably sent you here or you need tips on how to survive the three week camp. I passed out from the program (NYSC) on the 3rd of October, so be certain that I’m giving you these tips from my own experience.

1. Get yourself a Power Bank

Trust me when I say this, a power bank is a major survival tip at camp. I mean, how will you survive a whole 3 weeks without a charged phone? What would you use to pass time? How are you going to distract yourself? I thought so! Don’t dull yourself.

2. Pack light

You don’t want to be that person carrying a large box when you’re trying to register ( I was that person and all I can say is DON’T be that person!). Pack all your vitals and leave it as that, if you think you need an extra shoe, you don’t! An extra bag? Don’t bother babe. What about extra provisions? There’s a mami market. The main point is just pack light.

3. Get a file and a fanny pack

You need these two things for storage, a file for all your important documents and a fanny pack for your day to day essentials. Don’t be the person that went to camp and misplaced all their documents! Keep them safe and protected. Same thing goes for your fanny pack, if you’re not sure about leaving something in your box put it in your fanny pack and save yourself the stress.

4. Carry enough cash

This tip might not work in all camps, but if you were in a camp like mine (kogi) you have to carry cash. That long queue to get money from the ATM will make you forget you have money in your account ( or else you want to save money, then do you boo! )

I don’t think I ever withdrew and if I did it was probably just once. I’m too impatient to wait in a queue that long and most probably not get money because the money had finished. To save yourself the stress, carry cash!

5. Have fun and make friends!

Look! If you go to camp and come out with no friends did you really go to camp? The main point of going (according to me) is to make friends and memories. You have to enjoy yourself, go through camp don’t let camp go through you. If it means contesting for one of the pageants (which I did), contesting in your SAED program, or even match past do it! If you are not that bold or not up to it chill with your friends. Just enjoy it while it lasts cause after camp you face the real NYSC.

6. Don’t forget sunscreen

Now I’m sure some of you are like “who be this guy 🤷🏾‍♀️” (if you don’t get this, I’m sorry) I was one of the people that didn’t get themselves sunscreen and I came back so sun burnt it took a while to get rid off. Whether you’re a guy or girl you need sunscreen to protect your skin from getting burnt (at least to and extent).

Side note: Pray! This may seem so basic but trust me you need it. Some people die on their way or at camp or even on their way back. Not to scare you or anything but just pray. It won’t cause any harm so why not do it?

That brings me to the end of this post guys! If you read up to this point thank you!

    1. Nice one. This is so important. Another thing to bring is your own white shorts and t-shirts because the ones you’ll get at camp wouldn’t fit.

  1. My favourite fashion trend is the bell bottom Jean’s. I like the fact that it adds extra curves to your body and also hides your tommy.
